WORKING IN A ELEVATOR MACHINE / MOTOR ROOM
HAZARDS:
CONTROLS:
- Always keep and maintain clear access to M/C Room.
- Always keep and maintain clear access to Main Switch, Machine, Controller, Hand Cranking device and Brake releasing lever in M/C Room.
- Always be aware of the location of the nearest stop switch and the Main Switch.
- Always turn off the power to the relevant elevator before working on any part of that elevator.
- Except for some specific activities e.g. fault finding and some tuning / adjusting activities which could not be possible to complete without energizing the equipment.
- Be aware that there may be electrical interconnections between control systems and always test an electrical point before touching it.
- Never assume that turning off a safety switch will isolate the electrical circuit of the item you are working on. The safety switch is designed to stop the lift, not isolate every circuit. Test it before you touch it! Play it safe and turn off the Main Switch.
- Ensure that guards are always in place and only removed for maintenance purposes.
- Be aware that machinery may start unexpectedly at any time and cause injury.
- Do not wear loose fitting clothing near rotating machines. The clothing could get caught in the machine and cause an injury.
- Gloves should NOT be worn when working near moving / rotating machinery.
- If Trap doors in M/C-Motor room are opened down, then a guardrail must be erected around the opening.
- Be aware of live electrical equipment when carrying or using metallic items in the machine room.
