Car
Top is hazardous, because car is a movable equipment with congested
area to stand comfortably, Electricity, Rotating Equipment, Height,
stationery and protruding equipment, less Illumination. Hence utmost
safety to be followed while working on the Car Top.
What are the Hazards on Car Top?
- Falling Hazard.
- Falling Object
- Electricity
- Slip Trip
- Fall Crush
- Being Hit
- Common Shaft
- Sharp objects
Working on Car Top:- following procedure must be always followed:
- Follow organization safe work procedure while Car Top Entry and Egress Procedure at all the time of Access & egress the car Top. (Three Safeties must be checked viz. Landing Door Circuit, STOP Switch and Inspection Switch).
- Always put the elevator in Inspection Mode while accessing Car top.
- Ensure adequate illumination on Car Top.
- Only two persons are allowed on the Car Top.
- Ensure proper communication with your co-worker.
- Always wear Full Body Safety Harness, if the Car Top Barricading is short in height and gap between car and hoist way wall is more than 300mm.
- Do not use loose clothing, hanging jewellery etc.
- Make yourself aware of distance between Counterweight or Adjacent Shaft with Car.
- Be aware of unguarded equipment e.g. Car Top sheave, cabin fan, ropes, door operator motor & stationery equipment in Hoist way, i.e. Beams, Vanes, Brackets, Limit Switches etc.
- Locate yourself in the safest position, so you can safely access the Inspection box.
- Do not lean or stand on the barricading & do not try to touch any parts while moving the elevator.
- Do not project and allowed to project your co-worker their hand or any body part out of the barricading or adjacent shaft.
- Do not try to overstretch or bend your body to reach to the equipment.
- Be sure of everything clear before moving the car & do not overlook any abnormal noise. \
- If Inspection Control Mode is not working properly, immediately rectify the issue by keeping the car in Inspection mode from Controller.
- No shortcut & No Horseplay or Prank while working at jobsite.
- Always wear all the required PPE while working on the Car Top.
