Awareness on Job Site Hazards

Construction sites can be a dangerous work environment. Safety managers and project managers are tasked with being able to identify and eliminate hazards to ensure the safety of everyone on the job site 

Common Construction Safety Hazards

  • Falls from great heights, Fall of Objects.
  • Excavation/trench collapse.
  • Scaffolding or ladder collapse.
  • Electrical hazards, both shock and arc flash.
  • Not using proper personal protective equipment.
  • Injury caused by repetitive motion.
  • Hearing damage caused by exposure to loud noise.
  • Manual Material handling
  • Slip trip & falls etc.

Thousands of disabling injuries and even deaths occur each year as a result of above hazards.

Maintain Work Areas Safe to Prevent incident.

This is probably the most important thing you can do to prevent this type of accident. Housekeeping is the key to preventing slips, trips and falls.

  • Keep walkways, aisles, and stairs free of tools, materials, and other hazards.
  • Clean up any leaks or spills on floors, stairs, entrance-ways, and loading docks promptly.
  • Repair or report floor problems, such as broken planks, missing tiles, etc.
  • Block off and mark floor areas that are being cleaned or repaired.
  • Keep cords, power cables, and air hoses out of walkways.
  • Place trash promptly in proper containers.
  • Report missing or broken stair rails and slippery or damaged treads.
  • Walk, don't run, on stairs. Hold onto stair rails while going up and down.
  • Don't jump on or off platforms and loading docks and stay away from edges.
  • Don't carry a load you can't see over, especially on stairs or around dock edges.

Pay Attention to Your Movements and Surroundings

  • Focus on where you're going, what you're doing, and what lies ahead.
  • Expect the unexpected.
  • Take responsibility for fixing, removing, or avoiding hazards in your path.
  • Avoid baggy or loose pants you could trip over.
  • Report or replace any burned out lights or inadequate lighting.
  • Watch out for floors that are uneven, have holes, hazards present etc.
  • Keep your hands free, not in your pockets, for balance.
  • Don't carry loads you can't see over.
  • Walk slowly on slippery surfaces.

Do’s at Construction Job site

  • Focus on where you're going, what you're doing, and what lies ahead.
  • Wear all personal protective equipment (PPEs)
  • Keep walkway clear from any obstructions.
  • Steps Carefully when moving
  • Use proper lighting/ torch.
  • Always pay attention to your surroundings
  • Take a break when it is needed
  • Follow the instruction from supervisor.
  • Report all incident /accident to immediate supervisor.
  • Follow 6S requirement.
  • Follow all signage's displayed at job site
  • Always keep in touch with your subordinate and supervisor.
  • Do JHA before your work start.
  • Use authorized tools/equipment’s, and always inspect before use


Don’ts at Construction Job site

  • Don’t ware loose clothing while working.
  • Don’t use any equipment which you are not aware of it.
  • Don’t touch to any moving machines / equipment.
  • Don’t walk under lifted load.
  • Don’t Keep Wandering into Unsafe Areas
  • Don’t horseplay at jobsite.
  • Don’t work in unsafe condition
  • Don’t allow any unauthorised worker at jobsite.
  • Don’t take shortcut
  • Don’t allow other to work under (two level).
  • Don’t use material hoist for personal movement.
