Organization Road Safety
INTRODUCTION
In an organization many employees operate vehicles at work. Employees are requested to ride vehicles safely to prevent accidents. Safety of people when riding or driving is personal responsibility and depends on many factors on the road and traffic.
The company views the situation
of the riders seriously and is committed to promoting a heightened level
of safety awareness and defensive driving behavior in its employees.
This guideline is not exhaustive but provides a minimum set of
requirements that would help to improve the safety of our riders and
drivers.
SCOPE
This policy applies to employees who ride or drive vehicles at work.
RESPONSIBILITY
Managing Director shall be responsible to implement this guideline in organization Department line Manager shall implement this guideline in their respective work area.
Documents Required
The Rider/Driver must submit copy of the following documents to Organization HR Department before using vehicles at work.
- Valid Motor Driving License.
- Registration Certificate (RC Book).
- Valid Insurance Certificate.
- Motorcycle Self Assessment Checklist (Organization Checklist)
- Checklists are self assessments by users to check the basic safety in their vehicles. This will provide an opportunity for the rider to address any shortcomings before riding.
- This must be done annually within 1Q of the year by all employees riding motor vehicle.
- For new employees this must be done at the time of joining.
- The checklist must be repeated after an accident.
The above documents are mandatory for using vehicles at work and copies shall be maintained by
respective HR/Administration department. These shall be verified by HR and Safety departments in regular audits and checks.
Employees must adhere to the following requirements:
- Possess a valid driving license that is always carried along while driving
- Must maintain minimum insurance requirements of vehicles.
- Mobile Phone or other communications devices must not be handled and used while riding or driving. Hands free accessories are allowed only for car drivers. This must be ready for use before starting the journey.
- Employees riding motorcycles are to stop their vehicles alongside the roads at safe locations to attend their calls.
- Employees must always wear Crash Helmets while riding motorcycle.
- Maintain their respective vehicles properly.
- Employees must wear the Hi-Visibility Vest when riding to work including,
- Home to Work
- Riding site to site / office to site and site to office
- Work to Home
- Employees riding motor vehicle must undergo company approved Defensive Riding Training.
- Pollution under control check is conducted twice a year.
- Any hired car service for company purpose must have seat belts in good condition.
- Car driver and front seat passenger must wear Seat belt.
- Driver must drive at safe speeds as per local road laws and weather conditions.
- Driver must ensure they are medically fit to drive safely.
- Drivers must comply with traffic laws and rules.
- Drivers must not be under the influence of any drugs, alcohol or substances that may impair their ability to drive. DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE
Driving Violation
The following are serious violations that the company will have zero tolerance
- Driving without Valid License.
- Driving in period of suspension or revocation of Driving License and Vehicle Insurance.
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Failure to report an accident.
- Riding motorcycle with three or more people.
- Attending Mobile phone while driving or riding.
- Driving without wearing Seat belt or Helmet
Accident Record keeping/Reporting and Analysis
Organization
considers elimination of motor vehicle accidents as a major goal. To
meet this objective, all accidents should be reported and investigated.
In the event of an accident the following tips will help:
- If possible, move the vehicle to a safe location out of the way of traffic.
- Call emergency number for medical attention and help.
- Call police and insurance as per your vehicle details.
- Immediately notify the accident to your supervisor.
- Provide the Details of Accident.
In conclusion Traffic Safety Guideline is important for all drivers and riders to reduce motor accidents.
This procedure provides minimum requirements by the company to safeguard the riders.
